Drive as if going to O'Sulloc Tea Museum.

There are several carparks at the roundabout. Mount Sanbangsan - with the ocean at your back - and the stairs to the main entrance to the Shrine. The Main entrance to the Buddha Shrine All those little shops are mainly coffee shops that sometimes sell little souvenirs.
Korea, and Jeju in particular, make a pretty good effort at being environmentally conscious. In other blog posts you might have read about the process to sort trash and recycling. Part of these environmental conservation efforts involve having your car inspected on a regular basis to see if they are working properly, and just about how much harm are they doing to the environment.
If you decide to buy a car, you might have to do this sooner rather than later. Asking whether the car has had an inspection recently (and whether it passed) could be a good question to ask when it's time to buy your Jeju car. If it hasn't been done, your car inspection might be overdue, in which case it might cost more. A car inspection should be done every two years or so. When it's time, you'll get a notice in the mail that looks like the image on top. This notice will indicate what you need to do, and when do you have to do it by. Appointments can be booked online at the address listed on the notice, or via phone at the listed phone number (find a Korean speaker to help you). To book your appointment, you will need: - You car registration number (which is your license plate number; again, it's important to find a Korean speaker to help you because this number includes a Korean character). - Your ARC number - Your bank account number to provide - you'll have to transfer the inspection cost in advance. You will book your appointment for a specific day, you can show up at any point during the testing place's opening hours. You need to bring your car registration, inspection notice, and ARC (although we were not asked for any of this). Also, bringing your proof of payment for car taxes (a bill for car taxes will come twice a year in the mail) could be good. The inspection consists on lining your car (with several others) to have a diagnostic and make sure the car is up to driving standards. The whole test takes no more than 10 minutes. You may get recommendations at the end of your test (for instance, we were told we need to replace our tires...which we could have probably guessed). That's it! It may seem like a small thing, but it's a good idea to do especially if you intend to resell your car at the end of your time in Jeju. Address: 38 Seogwang-ro 32-gil, Idoi-dong, Cheju, Jeju-do
Hours: 11AM–11PM Phone: 064-757-8182 This is NOT The Indian Kitchen! The similar names can be confusing. This is a restaurant in Jeju city that is also a very good for an Indian food fix. The menu is select. The owner speaks good English, and it is in a very funky part of Jeju City, near City Hall. Kevin's the Hairdresser is just across the way. Do not be fooled by the menu... There is no butter chicken on there, BUT if you say "Like Butter Paneer, but with chicken" they understand. The Tandoori chicken is awesome, as is the lamb rogan josh. Check out these links to get more of a feel for the place. Baghdad Café FaceBook page Baghdad Café - Korean Tourism page This is defintely one of those "huh?!" places. Again, in the middle of nowhere, quite far away, but definitely a must if you like Indian food.
Baghdad House is owned by a Nepalese man, married to a Korean woman. He met his wife while he was working in India. It is a Hotel/B&B and a fantastic restaurant that is open to the public. Good parking facilities. Outside there are lovely flower gardens. You enter the restaurant and you are immediately taken by the funky decor. Chandeliers, tasteful pieces of furniture, a cool atmosphere... The indian food is amazing. All your typical staples are there: Butter chicken (OMG Yummy), Lamb curry (quite spicy), Chicken Tikka (DAMN!!!), Paneer done various ways, delicious naan, but sadly...no popadoms. You ave to know how to get to the Jeju City E-mart. Here are those instructions again, with the added part of how to continue on to the airport. To get to the Airport
Stay to the right of the three lanes ;-)
The batteries used in the smoke alarms in Raon are Lithium batteries. They rarely need to be changed. But just in case you do.. here is what they look like.
Turn in between the blue van (which of course will no longer be there), and the Blue and white sign for the small car park.
This is the closest supermarket to us in the GEC and has everything you will basically need. It even has some things that are brought in from the Martro in Jeju city! Address: Woori Mart, iljuseo-ro, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju, 2641 63506 - 우리마트 제주 서귀포시 대정읍 일주서로 2641 (우)63506 Hours: 07:00-10:30 Tel: 064-792-0005 And it delivers!!! Here are the details below ;-) Between the Forchetta restaurant and the car detailing place on the way to Moseulpo. It has nice views, good coffee and tea, and has bathrooms. The owners speak a little English.
These places are hard to find on maps, so here they are as a rough guide.
Here are written instructions on how to get to the Jeju City E-mart area (Shin Jeju).
This is in case you do not yet have a GPS/SatNav, or a SMART phone linked to a phone plan that gives you adequate Internet access as you travel to follow Google maps on. This will help you to get there driving yourself so you don’t have to rely on a bus or someone else driving you for very long. It’s actually quite easy, but it needs a couple of practices before you can do this as a matter of course. To get home again just reverse the directions - and remember to come off the highway at JUNCTION 14 (Global Education City is sign-posted). The junction numbers are displayed in the top left hand corner of the BLUE SIGNS on the main highway to Jeju City. Good luck! ========================================================================================= How to get to the Jeju City E-mart and Lotte Mart Start by having Canadian Magic on your left, and BHA Gate 3 on your right.
========================================================================================= FYI: -
The original JescoThis is a big Martro like store that used to sell bulk products as well as smaller quantities. It now sells just the smaller quantities. Big car park facility round the back, where the entrance to the store is. The carts are free at this store. You don't need the 100 coin to operate it. Look out for the '365' sign on the front of the store to know you have arrived. drive through the front entrance and go round to the back to the car park. The entrance to the store is here. Tp leave you drive out to the right of the store and out of a side exit. Turn left at the lights to get back onto the road to get you to Lotte Mart and home. Here you can find similar things you can find in other stores, except sometimes it will have things you can't find in other stores sometimes. AND it's open 365 days a year! The new store is right next door to it, and shares the same car park. This is mainly for bulk items now, but you can still get a few small quantity items. FYI - there is another one is Seogwipo, not as big and not as easy to find, but it's there if you want to give yourself an adventure ;-) This is one of those cool experiences you should have in Korea. The extremely friendly owners and a chef who speaks a little English will help you with cooking and ordering of your food.
All Korean restaurants bring a ton of side dishes (Included in the price) to your table. This place has many!!! See the photos below. You have a choice of sitting on the floor Korean style, eating beef bulgoggi that you cook yourself at your table (like Chinese hot pot), or you can sit at a table. Leave your shoes at the front door. They have plastic slip-on sandals for you to wear if you need to go to the bathroom while you are there. |
