The original JescoThis is a big Martro like store that used to sell bulk products as well as smaller quantities. It now sells just the smaller quantities. Big car park facility round the back, where the entrance to the store is. The carts are free at this store. You don't need the 100 coin to operate it. Look out for the '365' sign on the front of the store to know you have arrived. drive through the front entrance and go round to the back to the car park. The entrance to the store is here. Tp leave you drive out to the right of the store and out of a side exit. Turn left at the lights to get back onto the road to get you to Lotte Mart and home. Here you can find similar things you can find in other stores, except sometimes it will have things you can't find in other stores sometimes. AND it's open 365 days a year! The new store is right next door to it, and shares the same car park. This is mainly for bulk items now, but you can still get a few small quantity items. FYI - there is another one is Seogwipo, not as big and not as easy to find, but it's there if you want to give yourself an adventure ;-)

This is one of those cool experiences you should have in Korea. The extremely friendly owners and a chef who speaks a little English will help you with cooking and ordering of your food.
All Korean restaurants bring a ton of side dishes (Included in the price) to your table. This place has many!!! See the photos below. You have a choice of sitting on the floor Korean style, eating beef bulgoggi that you cook yourself at your table (like Chinese hot pot), or you can sit at a table. Leave your shoes at the front door. They have plastic slip-on sandals for you to wear if you need to go to the bathroom while you are there. Whether they meant it or not, their name literally means "pizza on the fly", or "fast pizza" in Italian.
This place can be used to order pizza for pizza parties at school. Great views, great options for coffee choice, quite a large interior. Funky name! ;-) Also serves tea.
There are a couple of options as to how to do this:- 1. Look on the GEC Social Facebook page. There are always used bikes for sale. 2. Buy new. Here are the details of a bike store in Jeju City. It is called "Specialized" and it has a range of new bikes, used bikes, and cycling necessities such as helmets, and TYRE PUMPS. The best thing is though they deliver the bike to where you live, so you don't have to ride it all the way back to the GEC from Jeju City. It is quite a ways away, so you either need a car, a friend with a car, or couple of bus changes to get there. It is in the same area as Kevin's the Hairdresser. For now, there is only one place to get a mani-pedi in the GEC. There are rumours of another place opening, but you know how rumours are... ;-) There are of course a couple if places in Moseulpo, and many in Jeju City and Seogwipo.
But until we have proof, there is only this one place. It's called "Story" and it is behind the Canadian Magic brunch place. As you can imagine it is very busy, so it is best to make an appointment or you may well be disappointed. Phone number: - 010 5093 6785 Feeling in need of some good old noisy atmosphere, and some sweet and sour pork, or some hot chicken dish? Well here you go!
Just a few doors before Gla Gla Hawaii in Moseulpo Harbour. This is a great addition to the local food places to go and eat!
It serves pancakes and maple syrup with eggs, bacon and (local) sausage; it serves BLTs; it has cakes and tea and coffee, to name just some of the things that make your weekend good ;-)...sigh! The 'Original Pancake plate' is massive. Two big pancakes with maple syrup, 3 rashers of bacon, one sizeable local pork hot-dog type sausage with a hint of pepper in it, a well sized omelette, and a little salad garnish will cost you around 15,000 KW. This is a VERY popular haunt. The menu is small but perfectly formed, and it tastes good!
There are the basic menu options to be found here. The Korean chef and owner has Thai cookery training. ;-) FYI - it closes early! So this place is one of those Jeju gems... in the middle of nowhere but serves seriously good food! In this case burgers.
There are a selct variety of burgers in offer, from your good ole cheeseburger to an avocado burger. It is not far from the GEC, close to the closest Peace Museum to us, but it's not anywhere you might have thought it would be. Here is link to a small map of the GEC. https://www.google.co.kr/maps/@33.2676731,126.271799,13.34z?hl=en And here is a static map of the GEC for you to familiarise yourself with to begin with. We all know the dread of going to a hairstylist who doesn't understand us when we ask for what we need to have done to our hair. Well finally here is someone who can help you!
Kevin has a lovely little salon in a very trendy area of Jeju City. There are many restaurants, coffee shops, and beauty shops around his salon, and there is the Baghdad Indian restaurant - a good place for Indian food - a few doors down from him, on the opposite side of the road. He for sure sells Kerastase products, for more or less the same high price you would pay back home. For the blonds amongst us, he has great success with blond highlights and full colour ;-) Kevin's prices are more than most Jeju Salons, but it's worth the peace of mind. Make an appointment if you want to be sure of a chance of getting seen. He does take walk-ins, but not so sure if he will take a full cut and colour as he is very busy... always. There is one outside of Gate 3 of BHA, close to Paris Baguette, And this is another one with only with a nicer view.
This Starbucks right on the coast, and is next to Mount Songak-san, that has a well used and popular hiking trail that leads to a hilltop park area. (Close by is also an open air go-kart track). This area is always really busy during tourist season so don't be surprised if the generous car-parking facilities are full, as are the streets leading into and out of his little hub of activity. But if you need your Starbucks fix, then do what you need to do ;-) You can buy the customary mugs, coffee beans, etc... here. It also has a small Dunkin' Donuts right next door to it - both places are good for a little get away from people you see everyday, and for a maybe a walk along the beach or a hike on a hill trail. photos - https://www.tripadvisor.com.vn/Restaurant_Review-g297892-d9458144-Reviews-Starbucks_Jeju_Songaksan-Seogwipo_Jeju_Island.html
Go into the supermarket, and immediately to the left is an elevator (or you can take the stairs). The IKEA Market Place section is on the second floor. The showroom is on the third floor. Apparently you can order stuff that isn't in the showroom, and have it delivered to your house! There are a few ways of getting hold of IKEA stuff on the island, but by far the easiest for those essentials you can't live without is to go the newest IKEA store in town. It is located on the other side of Jeju city furthest away from us.
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THERE IS A PURPOSE-BUILT IKEA HAPPENING RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO MARTRO IN TAPDONG!!! It's still being built but should open before December 2017. - It's like a smaller version of the Market place in a usual IKEA store, with some furniture but not lots. XXL portion of kitchen stuff M-L portion of bedding, bathroom, storage, plastic things and knick knacks, shelving, clocks etc., candles, lighting, kid's stuff. S-M portion of furniture. Zero portion - food :-( - It's on the second floor of a four storey building, above a big Korean grocery store. There is a small car park to the left of the building. Go in through the main door, and take the elevator to the second floor ;-) - They are opening another floor of IKEA soon on the third floor. ;-) Hoping for a food section ;-) It's really easy to get to, but quite a way away. Basically keep going straight. Take the road to Jeju city and stay on it! Take your credit card ;-) |
