Never in a decade would you expect this to be a cafe/restaurant/bistro. The venue is at the beginning of Hyeongjehaean-ro, and it is right on the corner, right on the coast.
No outside seating, but take your laptop or tablet with you for a lovely couple of hours of whiling away the time. Also, it is a great place to have 'club meeting' (Like a writing group, or book club, etc...). It is perfect for that get-away-from-it-all lunch, too. It has a small but very lovely menu (see some photo examples), and everything on there is really good. There is also real ice cream and excellent coffee on offer. You can easily park your car in the parking lot just outside. There are two entrances; one off the main road, and one round the corner up some steps. The owners speak english ;-) How to get there by car, bicycle, moped, etc...
Check it out on the Jeju Goodeats Facebook page map. (Google maps coords - 33.24389, 126.21788)
This restaurant is in the Moseulpo direction, cheap, delicious and had has an excellent view of the ocean... and occasionally dolphin pods that come to play and feed just off the shore line ;-) The owners speak fairly good English. How to order - the owner will bring the menu and a marker. You write directly on the menu how many of each roll you would like. Each guest is given a small bowl of Miso soup, each group of guests is given and a small dish of edamame to share. These are included in the price. In addition to the menu, there are specials boards, and over the top of the kitchen opening, there are specials there too. (recommended - The Halla Mountain Roll - seriously awesome!) Here are some photos of the outside of the place, a boat full of wanna-be dolphin spotters, the menu, and a business card. How to get there.
There are three huge E-Marts on Jeju within easy reach when driving (By bus it takes longer): - Seogwipo (30-40 mins from GEC), Jeju City (30-40 Mins from GEC), and TapDong (40-45 mins from GEC) Similar to your local super/hyper market back home... with a distinct Korean feel and flavour! Main department: - food, groceries, bakery, dairy, meat/pork/poultry/fish/seafood, househould goods, cleaning equipment, kitchen goods and gadgets, clothes, shoes, toiletries, beauty products, baby necessities, pet food/litter/treats, etc... You can find a number of things from overseas here. You can find 'odd' things like chia seeds here, some essential herbs and spices, salt and pepper, and even mustard and A1 sauce. The rule of thumb is "If you see it, buy it!" - it might not be there the next time you go. (eg. fresh whipping cream. It's not a commonly used item in Korea, so it is infrequently found) There is an electrical department that sells all the usual appliances (except bread makers) with a variety of price and familiar brand ranges. (FYI - the 'No Brand' range is cheap and works just as well ;-) ) This is one of those chains that falls under the SF-FS closures (Second Friday of every month, and Fourth Saturday of every month) - SFFS... think up your own acronym for that ;-) 1. in Jeju city, near Lotte Mart This store is a multileveled store with an interior multi-level carpark. There are lights on the ceiling in the car park... the red indicate a spot that is taken, and the green indicate a free parking spot. The food section is on the ground floor. The pet section is near the electronics section on level 2. Be prepared to wait for a while to use the elevator! It's a very busy store, and many people need to go the car park ;-) 2. in Seogwipo, near the football stadium A one-level warehouse sized store with two parking areas - one small out front, and one larger version up a ramp on the right. (Up on the upper level you will also find a tyre/mechanic type shop) 3. in Tapdong, near Martro This store is a multilevelled, and has a huge outdoor ground floor level carpark. It's right on the water front near Jeju harbour. Take your phone, a compass, and some snacks... you could be in there a while! There are two locations for Martro on Jeju - in TapDong and in ilDo.
This is like a CostCo - so be prepared to buy in bulk. This is not the kind of place you would do your weekly shopping, but it's definitely worth going to if you need a large amount of anything (nappies/diapers, litter for cats, toilet rolls, etc...), or you want those couple of things you can't get anywhere else (Some imported cereals, tomato paste, certain brands of toothpaste, etc...) Cheeses are available here, and the selection for choice is growing. Wines and spirits and beer are also available here. There are some Kirklands' products here, but not regularly so if you see something you like... get it! It might not be there the next time you go. There is fresh produce, meats, dairy products, household goods and so on, but no clothing, shoes, etc... Car parking is outside, and during busy seasons, there is an extra area that is opened for this purpose. This store is open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and even New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. It doesn't seem to suffer from the SFFS closures. |
