Ophthalmologists / Optometrists
WHO KNEW?!
What is the difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist?
- An optometrist has a degree of Doctor of Optometry.
- Drugs to treat certain eye disorders, such as pink eye, allergies, and glaucoma can be prescribed by both ophthalmologists and optometrists
- One main difference between an ophthalmologist and optometrist is that an ophthalmologist is trained to perform eye surgery
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No one has ever mentioned going to an ophthalmologist or an optometrist before so no advice can be given at this time.
However, it is recommended that if you need an eye specialist you do one of three things:-
1. Go see a GP about your issue, and maybe they can recommend an eye specialist to you.
2. Visit the S-Jungang, Halla, or University hospitals, and ask there - maybe they even have their own specialists.
3. Ask on the Jeju GEC Social Committee FB page - someone is bound to know!

Where to get glasses made, and contact lenses
E-mart in Seogwipo is a good option (like a Specsavers in the UK). You can get a quick eye test for a lens prescription, and then you can get a pair of glasses custom made.
You can also ask them to make prescription sunglasses!
They are usually ready in a week - they send the order away to be made offsite - and then you can pick them up. This glasses making place knows BHA and the other schools in the GEC quite well so sometimes they can actually deliver them to school!
