The Queen of Jeju - Find her on Facebook! Her name is Kendra Pugh. She will help you with translations, help you find a car, and help with getting the car you choose checked out before you buy it. It is important to know that anything that goes wrong with your car within the first month of purchase MUST be dealt with (and paid for) by the dealer - it's Korean law. So, if you buy a car and anything goes wrong in that timeframe, take it straight to the dealer and they will take care of it. Also, Mr Hong sells cars. His e-mail is - [email protected] His phone number is - 010 2337 0359 Here is a recent review of Mr. Hong and his services. "You just send him an email with the type of car that you're looking for and the price range. He always delivers similar vehicles, will drive them to the GEC for you to test drive for free, and will get the paperwork done and can help with insurance. Most importantly, he is extremely reliable, respectful, and if something goes wrong with the car, he will pick it up and fix it for you. Often without cost. Many expats on here have purchased cars from him and can speak to similar positive experience" Here are the websites of two places where you can go to buy second hand cars - they seem to be in the higher price ranges, but it does depend on what car you might want to buy. You may want to take a Korean speaker along with you to help with translations and negotiations. http://www.jejuall.com/CCar/ http://auto.jeju.icross.co.kr/index.icross |

Where to get gas/petrol |
Keep in mind that Korea is on the metric system, so pricing is by the litre (this is a note mostly for the Americans out there!). The nearest gas station to the GEC is probably a good 10 minute drive away, so make sure you have enough to get there if your car is running low. 24-hour gas stations have not been seen yet, so it would be a good idea to keep your gas filling to "business hours", although the one near the big roundabout on the way to Jeju city seems to be open till around 9 pm. And don't test your nerves of steel and run on fumes to avoid surprises. The nearest gas stations are in opposite directions to each other. One is at the roundabout on the way to Jeju city. The other is just as you get onto the highway on the way to Moseulpo. Both are about 10mins away from the GEC. |

Hyundai SpecialistBlue Hands Hyundai |
Good experiences for Hyundai owners have led to this recommendation.
"I needed a replacement rear headlight because of an intense discussion my car had with a tree. Blue Hands Hyundai ordered the part that day, it arrived that night, and the next day it was installed in my car in less than 5 minutes. Total cost: 90,000 KRW and an insurance claim avoided". (FYI - Blue Hands Hyundai has branches in Seoul too.) It is not far from Tire Pro (See above), about 100m before it, exactly opposite the Giant Garlic sign. Here is the Jeju address. You may get this in the post... What is it? (PART I)
This is the notice letter telling you that you need to do the check up for your car (Like an MOT in the UK, or an Emissions check in the USA) This maybe happen once a year, or twice a year after your car is +4 years old. If you look in the photo on the left, it has a place for YOUR NAME, and a date on the left hand side if the photo (in the sample pic - it's 2017.06.21). You have one month after the date on your notice to get this done after you receive your reminder.
There will be fine if you do not have the check up for your car.
It is a good idea to get this done BEFORE you leave for the summer of or for your winter break.
Below is the address of the nearest car repair centre who does the check up. Please bring your car registration certificate

Getting your car inspection done
Follow THIS LINK to find out what to do about getting your car inspection done.
You may get this in the post... what is it? (PART II)
This, my friends, is a speeding fine/ticket notice.
Please remember there are cameras EVERYWHERE on main roads, and some of them are dummies and some of them are real. Unless you have a GPS in your car that makes a funny sound when you get real close to a live one, you will not know which are live and which are there to deter you from speeding just in case they are real.
If you do get a speeding fine, you can pay it online via immediate bank transfer between banks on your phone or your computer. Or you can go a branch of your bank and they can help you there. All you need is the recipients account number (on the fine notice itself), and then all it takes a few minutes to pay this. Fines increase the more fines you get, so the first fine will be about 40,000KW. The next one will be around 70,000KW, and so on.
Should you not pay by the time stated on the fine notice, you will be re-sent the fine with an additional fine for late payment. Just FYI.
