GROCERY STORES - These sell food, groceries, home/household needs, appliances, some clothing, baby care items, pet needs, etc... See bottom of post for a list of grocery stores
There is a phenomenon here on Jeju, and that is the SF-FS
Lotte-Mart, E-Mart, & Home Plus close on every Second Friday (SF) and every Fourth Saturday (FS) of every month. (SF-FS)
The FS is just after our payday (23rd of every month)... you WILL forget this. ;-)
Even though you will try to remember this, you will forget... sigh! There is nothing more annoying than rocking up to the E-mart that's 40 mins away to find it's closed!
You can find most everything you want here on Jeju. Jeju is really trying to be more international. It is working really hard at it. So you can find most everything you want... just not all in one convenient place. And not always when you need it.
Spices for example... most stores stock the "usual" spices like parsley, basil, oregano, pepper, salt, etc... they usually come in large containers. Occasionally you will find something unusual, like garam masala, in certain stores but not others.
And if you can't find in the stores here, chances are you will be able to find it on GMarket, Coupang, or iHerb. All deliver here, to your apartment door or to school ;-)

The rule for shopping for anything in Jeju is...
If you see it, and you think you might need it... buy it!
Buy three of them!
It may not be there next time you go looking for it.

A sizeable local market that sells everything from fresh fish, to vegetables, to sewing kits, to bed linen, etc... A very fun experience! The best advice on when it's open has so far been that it is open any day with a 1 or a 6 in it. If a month has 1st AND a 31st in it, then it is open on the 31st, not the 1st. |
