Banking options on JejuAt BHA, your salary will be put into a local bank account, and it will be split into 70% USD and 30% KRW. You can do almost everything via a debit/ATM card and Credit card here. There are also some very easy bank-to-bank transfer options that make things like paying bills very easy. Money transfers to your home/non-Korean bank account can be done on your couch, at your desk, in your bed, or wherever there is an internet connection from your computer or phone . There are three major recommended banks that function in Jeju: - -Nong Hyup (NH) - this is the bank of choice for BHA -ShinHan - a good option to switch to later if you feel you need a change. - Hana bank JUST FYI - it is a pain to set up online banking with any bank, bit once it's set up your golden. If you are at BHA then you will be given help with this in your orientation week. HR will set up a NH bank representative to come to the school and you can fill in all the relevant paper work right there and then. You will have your bank account up and running ready to receive your first salary ;-) The other schools will also help their staff with such things. Shinhan BankThere are fewer of these branches on the island but this bank is also really good. (FYI - There now is a SHINHAN branch in the ShinHwa Marriot Hotel. If you go in the Marriott entrance, down the escalator, turn right, then walk towards the casino (which is behind you going down the escalator). If the casino is in front of you, go to your left! There are signs and it's just back in that corner. They all speak very decent English.) Branch Opening Hours: - 09:00-16:00, Monday-Friday Even though there are fewer branches, this bank is extremely helpful. There is an ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORT PHONE SERVICE (and a MANDARIN LANGUAGE SUPPORT PHONE SERVICE) that has extremely fluent English speakers that you can call for help with anything to do with your account within normal operating hours. You can also use this service to begin the process for reporting a lost or stolen ATM/credit card. English speaking Tel. support service: - 1577-8380 Mon-Fri 09:00-17:00 (or +82 2 3449 8380 from abroad) Card Services 1544-7333 Mon-Fri 09:00-18:00 For more info, check out https://www.shinhan.com/en/index.jsp#300000000000 |
NH BankOpening hours : - 10:00 - 16:00, Monday-Friday
This bank offers online banking. There is an NH branch right here in the GEC (about 0-5mins from BHA, St, Johnsbury's Academy and KIS, and maybe between 5-10 mins from NLCS) between Raon and The Hue apartment complexes, on that same side of the road. There is a sign that says "GEC office". If you see that you are 10 seconds away from it ;-) There are more branches in Moseulpo, and many in Seogwipo and Jeju city itself. There will always be an NH bank teller in the GEC branch to help with queries and anything to do with handling your account, payment of bills, transfers, and money transfers should you need it. There is someone there who speaks 'bank' English. It will be useful to you to take a device with a translating app on it, or a Korean friend if you need to have a more than simple conversation with the bank clerk. Please find below the GEC branch details. Opening hours : - 10:00 - 16:00, Monday-Friday Tel #: - ?
